Butter 'n Love Recipes is a comb-bound community cookbook produced for the Marvista P.T.S.A. of Seattle by Fundcraft Publishing, whose printer's job number — 909-2 — sits at the foot of most pages. Fundcraft supplied the covers, the section dividers and the printed reference pages (a meat cooking chart, a canning guide, baking tips); the P.T.S.A. supplied the recipes.
It is a membership record as much as a cookbook. 81 contributors are named across 298 recipes, and 48 of those recipes are credited to children — 19 of them by name and grade, from Grade 1 to Grade 5. Every other volume in this part of the Darrell Anderson archive is professional: association records, hotel menus, trade clippings. This one is a neighbourhood fundraiser, kept by a career chef.
Nothing in the book is dated. The president's page prints 1981-1982 as Linda Harris's term and the flyleaf inscription reads as Dec. 2, '82, though the year glyph is not certain from the photograph. The item is dated circa 1982 until that frame is re-shot.
All 167 photographs are transcribed as printed — PEANUTBUTTER,
Rost a marshmelow in the fire, 1 pkg. Uncle Dan's — so every dish,
quantity and contributor is searchable. [cut off] marks text that runs outside
the photograph and [illegible] text that is in the frame but cannot be read.
No quantity has been reconstructed.
