This booklet is a copy of something the archive does not hold. In December 1993 Darrell Anderson borrowed a book the Culter family kept, photocopied twenty-five pages out of it and returned it, writing on the opener that his copies were “only a small part of your book.” The book itself went home with them and has not been seen since; finding it would supersede this.
25 frames ship out of 48 photographed. The booklet was shot recto and verso, so every second frame was the blank back of the one before it; those 23 blanks and one dead frame were measured, catalogued in the bundle's removed-frames.csv, and dropped. The call was made on measured text energy, which runs 0.073–0.297 on the frames that ship and 0.002–0.018 on the ones removed — no overlap, and a wide gap between.
All 25 are shown as captured and levelled, not restored. 19 leaves were mounted sideways and were turned by the bundle's own pipeline before they reached this archive; seven were settled by OCR at all four rotations, and fourteen carry no text to score at all and were called by eye against a card or a sign that reads only one way up.
On what is reproduced: the scans are the collection's own, but what is printed on them often is not. 9 of these frames are press cuttings belonging to The Seattle Times, The Daily of the University of Washington, Culinary Review, Allied Food & Beverage Magazine, and — for four of them — a publisher nobody has identified, because the cutting was trimmed without its masthead. Read the rights note before reproducing any single frame at size.
