Darrell Anderson cooked at Rose's Highway Inn from 1954, managed it from 1964, leased it with an option to buy, gave it up in 1968, and in March 2003 stood in the parking lot photographing what was left of it after the fire. At some point he put this scrapbook together: the menus he had worked from, the clippings that had covered the place, the staff photograph with everyone's years of service printed underneath, one of his own recipes as a newspaper ran it, and pages he typed himself about living in the house behind the kitchen.

Thirty-five pages, photographed one at a time. The oldest thing in it is a menu on which a half fried chicken dinner costs seventy-five cents; the newest is a colour snapshot of the burned building with the ROSE'S OPEN — USUAL HOURS sign still hanging beside the door. Every page is transcribed, so the whole of it — every dish, every price, every name on the staff list — is searchable.
